STORY | matroskin

The name of our company “Matroskin” is based on “Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat” children's books.

Uncle Fedya, a 6-year-old boy and a cat he found are trying to come up with a name for the cat. They come up with a wonderful name - Matroskin, and the cat is incredibly happy about it.

Public company Matroskin intends to be an innovation pioneer just as like as Uncle Fedya.

As early as the 1970s, Uncle Fedya was owning a solar heater and a biofuel tractor.

We are proud that we can improve business philosophy of our company in accordance with the ethical principles revealed in the book about Uncle Fedya: friendship, tolerance, freedom of choice, love of nature and respect for animals.

Eduard Uspensky was born in the USSR in 1937. The book “Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat” was published in 1974 in Russian language and in 1975 in Finnish language. Criticism of life in the Soviet Union was obstructing Uspensky’s career development as a writer. Nevertheless, the total of 7 witty books about Uncle Fedya were published.

Writer Hannu Mäkelä introduced us to Uspensky's life in his book "Eetu, a journey to the world of Eduard Uspensky" (Helsinki: Tammi, 2008).

On our behalf, Hannu Mäkelä asked permission from Eduard Uspensky to use the name of Matroskin.

Uspensky replied: "Hannu, of course, I agree to give the rights to use the name of this cat to this woman. Eetu."
